Drug Matching Game

Curious if you have a sleep disorder? Well, only a qualified doctor can tell you but this site might be interesting.

Check out the helpful pictures below and see the posters for questions in the posting after this one.

Note: Remember that if you get enough hours of sleep you go through the cycle a few times. (If you understand that then the graphs make a lot more sense. No, really. A light-bulb will go off. Did it just light? Yay!)

Remember, that I will ask you application questions. I will ask you to identify which vocabulary word is being cited in an example scenario. So, as your studying your vocabulary make up a few examples.

The majority of the exam will be multiple choice with one or two short answer questions.

You can do it! I believe in you!

States of Consciousness Amazing Posters by YOU!

AP Psychology students should be able to understand consciousness and what it encompasses is critical to an appreciation of what is meant by a given state of consciousness. The study of variations in
consciousness includes an examination of the sleep cycle, dreams, hypnosis, circadian
rhythms, and the effects of psychoactive drugs.

AP students in psychology should be able to do the following:

• Describe various states of consciousness and their impact on behavior.

• Discuss aspects of sleep and dreaming:

— stages and characteristics of the sleep cycle;

— theories of sleep and dreaming;

— symptoms and treatments of sleep disorders.

• Describe historic and contemporary uses of hypnosis (e.g., pain control,
psychotherapy).

• Explain hypnotic phenomena (e.g., suggestibility, dissociation).

• Identify the major psychoactive drug categories (e.g., depressants, stimulants)
and classify specific drugs, including their psychological and physiological
effects.

• Discuss drug dependence, addiction, tolerance, and withdrawal.

• Identify the major figures in consciousness research (e.g., William James,

Sigmund Freud, Ernest Hilgard).
